Before Your Eyes is a first person narrative adventure which tells the story of a soul’s journey into the afterlife using a new and innovative form of interaction — your real-life blinks.
Before Your Eyes had been in production for 5 years when I joined as lead designer & programmer. I was given the monumental task of transforming an experimental prototype into a marketable finished game in a year. I got to work expanding the existing codebase, adding dialogue systems, custom scene management (the game has over 140 scenes that can end in the blink of an eye - literally), hand drawn UI and new gameplay - resulting in a blink-based interactive experience for VR and desktop.
Thanks in part to my contributions, B.Y.E was picked up by Skybound (of Walking Dead fame), which infused us with extra time and resources for localization in 7 languages, branching story lines and more. By the end of development in February of 2021, I had filled the roles of animator, UI artist, story consultant and gameplay programmer. I’m humbled to have been trusted with bringing this truly unique game to the finish line and immensely proud of what our team of 5 accomplished in such a short time. The endless challenges of getting players on board with blink-as-input were absolutely a delight to solve.
